This is a great recognition of his independent research in understanding the structures and dynamics of carbohydrate-rich cell walls of many living organisms using sensitivity-enhanced solid-state NMR. The VYIA recognizes a single investigator within 10 years of receiving the Ph.D, and is presented at the Experimental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Conference (ENC) in odd-numbered years and at the EUROMAR in even-numbered years, which are the largest magnetic resonance conferences in the U.S. and in the Europe, respectively.

Previous recipients are Profs. Christopher Jaroniec (2017), Alexander Barnes (2019), Paul Schanda (2020), and Rina Rosenzweig (2022).
